Who we are
mapofwesteros.com ("the site", "we", "us") is an independent fan project that publishes an interactive map and reference pages about Westeros. This policy explains what data the site touches, why, and what choices you have. You can reach us at any time at [email protected].
The site is a static website: the pages you read are plain files served from a content delivery network. There are no accounts, no logins and no user profiles.
What we collect
We do not ask you for a name, an email address or any other personal detail, and we have no form that submits data to us. Searches you type into the map, places you select, distances you measure and layers you switch on are handled entirely inside your browser and are never sent to a server.
Our hosting provider records standard server logs for every website it serves, which may include your IP address, the page requested, the time of the request, your browser type and the referring page. These logs exist to deliver the site, keep it available and defend against abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you and we do not combine them with any other data.
Cookies and local storage
We set no advertising or profiling cookies ourselves, but the analytics described in the next section does set one first-party cookie. The site stores your map preferences (which layers are visible and where the map was last centred) in your browser's local storage so the map looks the same when you come back. That data stays on your device, is readable only by this site and can be cleared at any time from your browser settings.
Third parties described in the next section may set their own cookies or similar identifiers when their content is loaded. Where the law requires consent for those, a consent banner will ask you before non-essential cookies are set, and you can change your answer at any time.
Advertising
This site is supported by advertising and works with Google, including Google AdSense, as a third-party vendor. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to see which pages are read and in which languages, so we know what to improve or translate next. It sets a first-party cookie in your browser, named _ga, to tell one visit apart from another, and reports aggregated figures to us: page views, countries, languages, referring sites and device types. We never see your name or your email address, we do not receive anything that identifies you personally, and we do not attempt to re-identify anyone from these reports.
Google processes this data as our provider, and its use is covered by Google’s own privacy policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website with the browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or by blocking the script with your browser settings or an ad blocker. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
Your rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, California or another region with comparable data protection law, you have the right to ask what personal data is held about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to your local supervisory authority. Because we hold no accounts and no user records, in practice there is usually nothing on our side to export or delete, but write to [email protected] and we will answer.
To exercise choices over advertising data, use the opt-out links above or the controls offered by your browser and operating system, since that data is held by the advertising vendors rather than by us.
Children
The site is a general-audience reference about a fantasy series and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site changes or when the law does. The date at the top of the page always shows the current version, and material changes will be announced on this page rather than by email, since we have no mailing list.
