Dorne is the southernmost region of Westeros and the last to join the Seven Kingdoms, by marriage rather than conquest. Its rulers still style themselves Princes, its laws let daughters inherit before younger sons, and its people trace their blood to the Rhoynar who crossed the Narrow Sea with Nymeria.

The Red Mountains wall Dorne off from the Reach and the Stormlands, leaving only the Prince's Pass and the Boneway as land routes. Beyond them lie deserts, the fertile valley of the Greenblood and the long eastern coast that ends at the Broken Arm.

Explore: Dorne

Sunspear, the Martell seat, stands at the eastern tip of the Broken Arm beside the shadow city and Planky Town, where the Greenblood meets the sea; the Water Gardens lie a short ride down the coast. The Greenblood is formed by the Vaith and the Scourge and flows past Godsgrace to the coast.

Western Dorne is stony hill country: Starfall of House Dayne rises on an island where the Torrentine meets the Summer Sea, with Blackmont and High Hermitage in the mountains above. The central deep sands hold Hellholt, Sandstone and Vaith; Yronwood guards the Boneway in the north and Skyreach and Kingsgrave watch the Prince's Pass. Ghost Hill, the Tor and Lemonwood line the eastern shore on the Sea of Dorne.

Dorne is hot, dry and proud. Its people drink strong wine, wear loose robes, ride sand steeds and remember that Dorne alone defeated the dragons. The three kinds of Dornishmen, salty, sandy and stony, differ in blood and custom but share the Martell words: "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken".
