The Westerlands are the hilly, mineral-rich lands along the Sunset Sea, west of the Riverlands and north of the Reach. The gold and silver beneath these hills made House Lannister the wealthiest family in Westeros and paid for the largest army south of the Neck.

Casterly Rock, the Lannister seat, is a fortress carved into a colossal rock above the sea, with the city of Lannisport at its foot. From the Rock the Goldroad runs east to King's Landing, the River Road north-east to Riverrun and the Ocean Road south to Highgarden.

Explore: The Westerlands

The region is small but densely settled. The Golden Tooth guards the only good pass into the Riverlands; Castamere, Tarbeck Hall and the mines around them fell to the Lannisters in the rebellion still sung about in "The Rains of Castamere". Crakehall stands on the southern border near the Ocean Road; Ashemark, the Crag and Banefort line the northern coast facing Ironman's Bay.

Fair Isle lies offshore, sheltering Lannisport's fleet, and Kayce and Feastfires watch the northern approaches. The hills give way to the plains of the Reach in the south.

The Westerlands are rich, orderly and proud. Lannisport is one of the five cities of Westeros and its harbour is home to the Lannister fleet. The people follow the Seven and their lords remember every debt. The Lannister words are "Hear Me Roar!", though "A Lannister always pays his debts" is the saying everyone knows.
