Distances and travel times in Westeros
Choose two places to measure the distance between them, then compare it with the distances George R.R. Martin has given in the books.
The scale of the map is calibrated so that the ride from Winterfell to King's Landing comes to roughly 1,500 miles by road. All other figures are estimates derived from that scale; the novels are deliberately vague, so treat them as good approximations rather than canon.
Distance calculator
Travel times assume about 30 miles a day on horseback with rests, 18 miles a day on foot and 110 miles a day under sail with fair winds. Armies, wagons and winter storms move far more slowly. Show on map →
