Stretching from the Wall north towards the Frostfangs and east to the Bay of Seals, this forest of pine, sentinel and weirwood covers much of the land beyond the Watch's reach. Snow buries the ground for most of the year and paths close behind travellers.
Free folk villages, caves and hidden holdfasts lie scattered under the canopy. Rangers give the wood its name for good reason: it swallows sound, hides movement, and has claimed patrols that never sent word back to Castle Black.
