Where the Green Fork of the Trident runs too deep to ford, House Frey built a fortified bridge with an identical castle anchoring each bank and a water tower in the middle. It is the only crossing for many leagues.
Six centuries of tolls have made the Freys rich and numerous, and their leave is needed by any army moving between the North and the riverlands. Lord Walder Frey has outlived several wives and fathered a famously enormous brood.
