Stretching north to south in the cold country between Winterfell and the Wall, Long Lake gives the North its main inland fishery and feeds the White Knife, which runs south to White Harbor. The kingsroad passes to the west of its shores.
Settlement around the water is sparse, with fishing villages on the banks and the lands of the Umbers and Karstarks beyond. In deep winter the surface freezes hard enough to cross on foot.
