On a sheltered bay of the Shivering Sea, north-east of the Wall and far past any castle of the Seven Kingdoms, this was the closest thing the free folk ever built to a town. Ships from Braavos and Oldtown once traded here for furs and amber.
Six centuries ago fire destroyed the settlement in a single night, and the ruin has been shunned ever since. Wildlings still speak of the cliffs above the water as a cursed place, though the natural harbour keeps drawing raiders and refugees back.
