These are the coldest and cruellest peaks in the known world, running north from the western end of the Wall. Snow lies on them year round, passes close without warning, and few plants or animals survive above the treeline.
Wildling clans shelter in the valleys and caves along their flanks, and the Milkwater rises from their glaciers. For the Night's Watch the range is a barrier as much as the Wall itself, since armies cannot cross it quickly and rangers who enter often do not return.
